My interest in the subject began when I attended my first year class when I was first taught how to draw and the beginnings of design, skills which progressed as I carried the subject through to my sixth year when I took it as an Advanced Higher and won first in my year in it as well as first in my fifth year Graphics Higher.
From my sixth year at school I continued to Glasgow Metropolitan College to further my knowledge in Graphic Design and the areas involved in it, including photography, web design and typography. Through the college I have applied for the 2011 Penguin Adults Awards and have visited to London to attend lectures by experianced professional designers. Both of which tribute to my understanding of the Graphic Design Industry and help me improve my future work.
During my time at school I worked with the Eco Schools programme to help design the landscape for Wester Overton Primary in a team of students to help our school gain its first Eco Green Flag award and I was also involved in a project called Glow where we communicated with art professor Willie Rodger through live video conversations and learned from his experience of lino printing to help us create our own prints in the process. The finished articles of which where part of an exhibition at MacRobert Centre in Stirling.
The subject attracted me because of the creative side of it and the oppurtunity to use computer programs to inhance and create art work. My experiance of using programs such as Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator and Dreamweaver has improved in my time at Glasgow Metropolitan.
